Hello from the Pacific!
This week, we’re taking a break to absorb the awful news and recharge. We’ll be back with a new ep next Wednesday. In the meantime, here’s what we’re thinking about:
Jay
I’ve been binging “Reservation Dogs” for the past week and am happy to report that I’ve found another show where I don’t fast forward through half the plot lines. It’s rare to find shows that don’t feel the need to explain themselves but also present an entire world that opens up with every episode.
And there’s acting here that we haven’t seen really since Season Four of “The Wire.”
Tammy
I’m on a trip to South Korea, and recently attended a protest rally for the victims of last year’s Halloween crowd crush in the Itaewon neighborhood of Seoul. The Yoon government has refused to take any responsibility for those deaths; this week, Yoon chose to attend a memorial for the late dictator Park Chung-hee rather than acknowledge the mourners of Itaewon.
This weekend, I’ll be at another big demonstration—against the bombing, invasion, settlement, and blockade of Palestine. Thanks to all the TTSG folks in South Korea and all over the world who are organizing and flooding the streets.
Mai
I’ve been trying to keep myself from endlessly scrolling through the horrors in Gaza and the West Bank, instead choosing to read and listen to pieces of media that expand my understanding. I’ve also been trying to call my Congresspeople every day to urge them to call for an immediate ceasefire and to end U.S. military aid to Israel.
I’ve also been working long hours at my bakery job, and trying to focus on the small things that bring me joy there, like finally perfecting (kinda) my pretzel shaping and enjoying the pretzel bites we make from the leftover dough. Nothing beats the sweet, buttery smell of soft pretzels right out of the oven!

I have to say I'm a little perturbed by the break this week. Given your record of Jewish voices on the pod, I expected y'all to host at least one Jewish peacenik Israel-apologist to gently counter the Pro-Palestinian guests you had the past two weeks while this issue is still simmering. Even more productive, might be a discussion of Russ Douthat's NYT pieces on the subject, which I feel accurately critique the Progressive Left's reaction to the conflict. I'm a big fan and trying to hang in here-- I love the interplay between Jay's deadpan and Tammy's sincerity!
