Hello! Today we talk about Elon’s gambit to get everyone to respond to a work email on a weekend, the Eagles will they/won’t they trip to the White House, the Trump administration’s vague crackdown, and we talk for a long time for some reason about leap years and how they’re weird.
Greetings from Houston. I am sad to report that our mayor, John Whitmire, is not popular. He won in 2023 as a centrist, tough-on-crime Democrat who had worked with Republicans in the Texas Legislature for 30+ years and could cut deals. He almost immediately outed himself as a crypto-Republican. He cancelled a bunch of transit projects 2/3 of voters had approved in 2019 and spent the money on cops and robotaxis instead. He also fanned bs fears of a crime wave by complaining that he no longer feels safe going to the Kroger by Ted Cruz's house (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/M7O6JygHEio). Texas Monthly called him a twentieth-century mayor in a twenty-first century city. But who knows, these may be just the things the propel him to a landslide reelection in 2027.
