This might not have been cathartic for you Jay, but it was for me. Thanks both of you. People like you guys, John Ganz and the KYE guys (I'm a subscriber to all!) will continue to be my north star through all of this.

Thanks to you both for the show/talk earlier today. Truly you helped me to see where we are as you walked & talked through what just happened.

I shared your podcast today with my wife and a couple of friends and I think they both came away grateful for your takes on what’s at hand.

I wrote to my “friends” on Insta & Facebook last week that a whole bunch of people wanted to crash the car and they truly hoped that a bunch of relatively comfortable liberal minded people would be in the vehicle with them as we careen into the concrete support. And here we are!

And the only thing I’ve listened to since listeneing to you very early this morning is this week’s (The Grey Area) show with Sean Illing and his guest Musa Algharbi. His is the best exploration of where we are that I have come across. If you have not read his book please consider doing so and then having him on the show.

Just to be clear, I live in deep East Texas. About as conservative a place as can be. I am surrounded every day by “deplorables” and even though I longed for a majority of folks to lean toward Kamala, this does not surprise me at all.

And today as I drive around a vibrant and booming Lafayette, Louisiana I can tell you that the mood is positively giddy with hope.

All this to say that Bernie was our one true hope at leaning into where people are really coming from. Folks REALLY want change and since Obama and Biden didn’t give it to them they are willing to ignore everything else in hopes that Trump will do the job.

Here is a link to the author and fellow mixed race dude who should be paid attention to.

Again, thanks for what you do and especially for the show earlier today.

I heard Musa on Blocked and Reported and he sounded like another 'I'm liberal, but it's all the wokes fault!' and I'm not sure how far this get's us at this point. He's making the rounds, was on Andrew Sullivan last week or so. But I'll try to give it a listen.

Tell Me Why I’m Wrong

Yeah, Musa certainly sounds a little blame-ey, but I’m taking what he’s saying and writing as a history lesson, and a history lesson that’s hard to hear and read on the day after the election.

and just to add a bit of context, I’ve been (I think) a kind of naive liberal kid my whole life. And I’ve seen this coming for my whole life. I was a little kid when Jimmy Carter suggested we should be more conservative with our resources. I don’t think I understood what Jimmy Carter was really talking about, but it struck me even then as the right thing. Then Reagan came along, the Bush and the Shrub and their Wars and at every step I’ve been on the losing side, the unpopular side of the culture because success was being had, money being made and Upper Middle Class lives were being secured successfully around me. But what Musa writes seems to be basically correct, that my/our woke-ism has increasingly been out of step with the culture around us. And as someone who now lives in Deep East Texas after having been in Austin for many years, I can tell you that this is TRUE. All the Woke-ism, all the educated class, all the artists, all the liberal-minded folks are now going to bear the wrath of the Right even though much of the blame should be on the oligarchy, the ruling class, the lack of small d-democracy.
