Hello! Today we talk about the big WWE showdown at the White House between Zelensky and the tag team of Trump and JD Vance, where our alarm meters are for “wait maybe Trump actually is going to do all the stuff he said he’s going to do,” and we talk about the Democratic plan to “play dead” and wait for the perfect moment to form like Voltron and come to save the day with their big glowing sword and tiger heads.
Any thoughts about Prof Jeffrey Sachs's address to the European Parliament on Feb 19? He laid out in shocking honesty U.S. foreign policy including Ukraine.
First time commenter who loves the pod but gets often gets angry at other American lefties (Tyler in this case) about Ukraine.
Tyler mentions the popular support in Ukraine for a ceasefire and the urgency of peace given the number dead but doesn't square Ukraine continuing to fight despite it. Is it because Ukraine's democratically elected government is acting against their best interests or is a reasonable ceasefire deal not available and Ukraine believes they are better off continuing to fight than make the current deal?
I think Ukraine should hold elections, and that the US should probably condition aid on them holding elections, but it is crazy to see some leftists act like they know Ukraine's interests better than the Ukrainian government. In any other context leftists would consider it paternalistic for the US to decide what is in another country’s best interest.
